Our mission

  • To keep the church open as an example of Christian working in our own village.
  • To live a Christian life as far as we can.
  • We aim to support Charities and Quota, and other Churches and Christian communities.
  • We are constantly hoping for further growth and more support from Maltby-le- Marsh.
  • We aim to maintain the level of services we are at now.
  • We intend to go on celebrating the Christian way of life and proclaiming God by example.
  • We care for friends, relatives and neighbours, giving help to the community at large.
  • We are committed to organizations and associations amongst the life of the community.

Services

Second Sunday 3pm Eucharist (CW)

Our Church

Beesby is a small farming village with a population of about 90 and is now amalgamated with the neighbouring village Maltby-le-Marsh (population about 300) following the closure of their church. These villages are three and four miles respectively from Alford.

The 12th Century grade II listed building is a plain little church largely restored in the late 19th Century.

A major refurbishment project for Beesby Church started in 2001. In 2002, with the help of the Beesby Residents Association and the Alford Group of Parishes, we formed a committee known as "St Andrew’s Centre" to help us with the task of fundraising and applying for grants and faculties.

To date the project is:

Phase I Chancel roof and stonework Now complete
Fully funded
Phase II New paths, parking and re-ordering exterior landscaping Work commences October 2006
Fully funded
Phase III Final repairs and all other interior work Part funded; applications for further funding being submitted early 2007
At the end of April, work started to replace the tiles on the main roof. Click here to see photos.

The latest fund raising event was a spectacular "Open Air Nativity" in a farmyard setting with all the animals and a recent new baby, supported by the Alford Silver Band and the Grammar School Choir. It entertained huge numbers over three nights and raised £2,300.

Our Annual Summer Stall outside Alford Church, selling everything you can imagine collected throughout the year, has a great reputation, and raises up to £1,000.

There are two services a month, Eucharist on the second Sunday and Evensong on the fourth Sunday, both at 3pm. We have an average congregation of ten dedicated members with wonderful support on special occasions.

The challenge ahead is to increase the worshipping members from both villages and to continue to play an important part in the Alford Group of Parishes.
