Day Centre Outing

Thursday 6 September was the day of the Day Centre Outing - Brayford Water, Lincoln, the venue. Hunt’s Coach, loaded with the elderly and disabled and escorted by "Her in Charge", Barbara Willoughby, and her helpers Margaret Medcalf, Shirley Turner and Brian Weaver (plus Russell Carter at the final destination) departed Alford at 10am.

The weather was glorious for the drive and the mood noisy and happy as we boarded, with some difficulty, the good ship Brayford Belle for a canal trip to the north of Lincoln and return, supping coffee and feeding the swans. Disembarking was equally hectic (but good fun) especially as boarding a large barge eager to feed us all was the next target. However, the earlier exercise made it that much easier as did the promise of a king-size, slap-up meal on the Brayford Pool which was followed by a noisy ride home, perhaps eased for some by the odd glass of wine with lunch. There wasn’t an unhappy face to be seen at the end of the day - a wonderful outing thanks to Barbara and all.

Lincoln Boat Trips take the bookings for the Brayford Belle (01522 881200) and we heartily recommend The Barge at the Brayford for super meals, 01522 511448 - try them both!

The late Bob Woodgate was chairman of the Day Centre Committee on behalf of Age Concern and St Wilfrid’s and he is sadly missed by all.
