Easter Praise

Glorious music filled St Wilfrid’s to the roof on the afternoon of Sunday April 8th as the Alford Singers celebrated the wonderful festival of Easter in words and song.

They were joined by a congregation of about 70 people who were treated to superb music from Handel’s Messiah, including a heartfelt rendering of the Hallelujah Chorus and a pealing rendition of the final Amen.

The choir was in great voice and we were treated to a stunning solo from Eily Meg Gooding, Karen’s daughter. She sang, “How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the Gospel of peace, and bring good tidings of good things.”

The congregation, too, joined with gusto in singing popular Easter hymns – Jesus Christ is risen today, Come let us join our cheerful song, From heaven You came, helpless babe, This joyful Eastertide, and To God be the glory – all rousing hymns of praise.

As we stood by the church door afterwards, the faces of everyone coming out of the building were glowing with happiness – a testament to the deep joy we had just shared during a most moving Easter Praise service.
